Drug Bust

September 15, 2016

On the evening of September 12, 2016, a patrol deputy made an arrest of an individual that had information about ongoing crimes. After that subject was interviewed by the Special Operations Group and additional information was gathered, a search warrant was prepared by Investigators. On September 13, 2016, a search warrant was executed at 1302 Westwood Rd in Natchez, the home of John Adams (aka Johnny Pigg). Inside the residence, officers located stolen property, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and surveillance equipment. John Adams was arrested and transported to the Adams County Jail.

Later that evening, Agents were able to locate and arrest Michael Johnson, at which time he was found to be in possession of Xanax, methamphetamine, and a loaded weapon which was reported stolen from a car in Natchez Mall parking lot. Johnson had just been to Justice Court earlier in the day on additional drug charges and is now being held without bond. Agents went back to Johnson’s residence on Government Fleet Rd where they encountered additional people inside Johnson’s residence. Inside the residence, another loaded gun, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine were located.

On September 15, 2016, members of the Special Response Team executed an early morning search warrant at 8½ Pogo Street in Natchez. At the time of the warrant Carlos Owens and Derrick Owens were present inside the residence. During a search of the residence, almost 2 pounds of marijuana, synthetic marijuana, over 40 grams of cocaine, 57 Alprazolam, 21 Lortabs, scales, baggies, packing material, 2 loaded pistols, 1 loaded rifle, surveillance equipment, 2 vehicles, $1,670.00 cash and other misc items were seized. Deputy Karen Ewing was called because there were items found that raised concerns the six pitbulls in the yard were being trained to fight. Deputy Ewing consulted with the District Attorneys’ Office and an Animal Rights Lawyer. Deputy Ewing removed the dogs from the environment and is going to charge Carlos and Derrick Owens with the appropriate charges. All of this happened within 1500 feet of a church which acts as an enhancement.

This is a very good example of the entire department working together and communicating between departments. This started as a simple arrest for a warrant and now stolen property has been recovered, methamphetamine, prescription medication, synthetic marijuana, stolen gun, money, cars, surveillance equipment, have all been seized but more importantly Michael Johnson and Carlos Owens are Career Offenders. This means they could face more than 30 years if found guilty of the charges. These officer have put a tremendous amount of hours over the last three days to make this happen and have shown the dedication to take information and continue to pursue whatever crimes it may lead to.
